South Africa defeated Australia by a margin of 74 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at Boland Park in Paarl on Saturday (Feb 29) to take a lead of 1-0 in the series. In the last two months, South Africa won four out of their five series openers!
Having opted to bat first, South Africa scored 291 for 7 in 20 overs courtesy a maiden ODI century from Heinrich Klaasen (123 off 114). David Miller (64 off 70) too contributed to this total with a half-century. In reply, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals and Steven Smith's (76 off 94) knock went in vain!
Klaasen has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his maiden century. The second ODI of the series is scheduled to be played at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Wednesday (Mar 04). Play is scheduled to start at 04:30 pm IST.
