Right-arm pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out owing to side strain from England's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka which is scheduled to be played later this month as part of which two Test matches are to be played. England have replaced Wood with another fast-bowler Saqib Mahmood for this tour.
During England's recent tour of South Africa, Wood featured in last two Test matches while missing the first two of the four-match series. Wood has been haunted with multiple injuries through out his career! He is still on the recovery from the one that he sustained during the ODI World Cup 2019 Final against New Zealand at Lord’s in July.
On the other hand, Saqib Mahmood has thus far had very little experience at the international level. He played just an ODI game against South Africa and three T20Is against New Zealand. If selected in this Sri Lanka series, he will have a chance to play on the difficult sub-continent conditions!
