The much debated 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) kick started in United Arab Emirates on Saturday (Sep 19) with the clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings who were without some of their star players, comfortably emerged victorious in the tournament opener!

In the first match of IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians got to a good total of 162/9 in their 20 overs having opted to bat first. Chennai, in reply, chased down the target with four balls to spare and five wickets in hand. Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis and Sam Curran emerged out to be their match winners with crucial contributions in the game!

With this 5-wicket victory over the defending champions, Mahendra Singh Dhoni completed 100 wins as captain of the Chennai Super Kings franchise. He is the only captain thus far in the history of the IPL tournament to register as many victories as captain. Overall, Dhoni has 105 wins as captain in IPL with the other five victories as captain of Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017.
