Meanwhile, opener Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma who were injured were not picked in any of these three squads and are being closely monitored by the BCCI medical team. Here are list of the players that are set to set to feature for India against Australia in this tour.
T20I Squad:
Varun Chakravarthy took everyone by storm when he became the first player to pick up a five-for in the IPL 2020 season. He was also economical with his bowling and the five-for was only a icing on the cake for his performances he put in the IPL 2020. For the record, his discipline with the ball also made Kolkata Knight Riders to bench Indian capped player Kuldeep Yadav for some of the IPL games! Courtesy of this, Varun earned his maiden call-up in the Indian T20I squad.
In the absence of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan managed to get his opener slot back. To prove his case as an opener, he has scored two back-to-back hundreds for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 edition. KL Rahul who has been in superb touch with the bat has been named vice-captain and is likely to keep wickets as well. Sanju Samson is the second wicket-keeper choice in this list.
Squad: Virat Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul (vc & wk), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy
ODI squad:
Not many changes between India's T20I and ODI squad for this series! Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur replaces Varun Chakravarthy and Deepak Chahar in the T20I squad! There is no backup wicket keeper in this list as Samson was not considered for this format. It would be interesting to see who would keep wickets if KL Rahul gets injured during the ODI series!
Squad: Virat Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul (vc & wk), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Mayank Agarwal, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur
Test squad:
Courtesy of his superb red ball performances, Mohammad Siraj managed to earn a maiden call-up into the Indian Test squad. With Ishant Sharma's injury, India's pace battery looking a bit dull for this series. With the absence of Rohit in the squad, young Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal with be the first-choice openers during this Test series. KL Rahul can do the opening duties too in case needed.
Cheteshwar Pujara had a great series with the bat last time India toured Australia and he would want to continue the same momentum. It would be toss up between Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant for the wicket-keeper role while Ajinkya Rahane's role in the Test side would attract some attention. Head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli earlier benched vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane during a Test series and wonder if that would be the case as well now during this Australia tour.
Meanwhile, Indian selectors have also named Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kartik Tyagi, T Natarajan and Ishan Porel to travel with Indian squad for this tour. All these are talented bowlers and can bowl during the net session to give main bowlers a much needed break during this bio-bubble era.
Squad: Virat Kohli (c), Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vc), Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Rishabh Pant (wk), Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Siraj
