IPL 2020, Match 25: RCB thump out-of-form CSK for fourth victory

IPL 2020, Match 25, Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings - Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 37 runs

Saturday, Oct 10, 2020, Dubai International Stadium, Dubai

This was the contest of IPL 2020 considering how inconsistent both these teams are at this stage of the season but Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as was the case for them this season, failed to show up once again and as a result conceded an easy victory for Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)! With a 37-run victory in this match, RCB moved up to No. 4 while CSK retained their No. 6 position in the points table!

Having opted to bat first, RCB finished with a competitive total of 169/4 in 20 overs courtesy an unbeaten 52-ball 90 from captain Virat Kohli and a run-a-ball 33 from opener Devdutt Padikkal. Towards the fag end of the innings, RCB even with Virat at the crease were eyeing at just the 150-mark. However, the 18th over bowled by Sam Curran came as a blessing in disguise for the RCB as he leaked 24 runs from that over! This over changed the equation completely and helped RCB set a good target for CSK.

During the chase, CSK batters one after the other came to the crease and departed without making any valuable contribution. Ambati Rayudu scored 42 runs off 40 deliveries but his poor strike rate only helped RCB to have a full command! In the end, CSK managed to score only 132/8 in 20 overs conceding RCB a victory by 37 runs who has taken two crucial points!

RCB overseas all-rounder Chris Morris was the pick of RCB bowlers as he conceded just 19 runs from his 4 overs while picking up three wickets. RCB's Washington Sundar too bowled brilliantly in the powerplay conceding just 16 runs from his three overs. RCB captain Virat Kohli bagged the 'Player of the Match' award for his crucial match-winning half-century!

Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore - 169/4 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli - 90*, Devdutt Padikkal - 33, Shardul Thakur - 2/40, Deepak Chahar - 1/10) defeated Chennai Super Kings - 132/8 in 20 overs (Ambati Rayudu - 42, Jagadeesan - 33, Chris Morris - 3/19, Washington Sundar - 2/16) by a margin of 37 runs
