IPL 2020, Match 47: SRH stun DC to stay alive in playoff race

IPL 2020, Match 47, Sun Risers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals - Sun Risers Hyderabad won by 88 runs

Wednesday, Oct 27, 2020, Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai

Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) made a strong comeback when it mattered the most for them to defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dubai on Wednesday (Oct 27). The winning margin is so huge - 88 runs - that it made DC lose their second place to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2020 points table. Going into this game, Delhi played the same team while SRH made three changes - Wriddhiman Saha, Kane Williamson and Shahbaz Nadeem replaced Priyam Garg, Jonny Bairstow and Khaleel Ahmed.

After being sent into bat first, SRH openers put on a show with the bat. Captain David Warner (66 off 34) along with new opener Wriddhiman Saha (87 off 45) added 107 runs for the opening wicket in just 9.4 overs. The 63-run stand for the second wicket between Saha and Manish Pandey (44* off 31) is also great for the Sun Risers. And with an unbeaten 49*-run stand between Pandey and Kane Williamson (11* off 10) for the third wicket helped SRH finish with a mammoth total of 219/2 in 20 overs.

Among Delhi bowlers, Anrich Nortje (1/37) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1/35) bagged the two wickets to fall in the Sun Risers innings. On the other hand, Kagiso Rabada failed to pick up a wicket in this match putting an end to 25-match streak in IPL! Rabada, before this game, had picked up at least a wicket in 25 consecutive IPL games - most for any bowler!

Chasing a mammoth target, Delhi were never really in the game at any stage! The 40-run stand between Ajinkya Rahane (26 off 19) and Shimron Hetmyer (16 off 13) for the third wicket is the best for DC in this big chase! With wickets tumbling around him, Rishabh Pant batted till the 17th over but only managed to score a 35-ball 36! In the end, DC were cleaned up for just 131 runs conceding Sun Risers a massive 88-run victory.

Rashid Khan is the pick of the bowlers with three wickets from his 4 overs conceding just 7 runs. Opener Wriddhiman Saha has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his crucial contribution with the bat up the order!

Brief Scores: Sun Risers Hyderabad - 219/2 in 20 overs (Wriddhiman Saha - 87, David Warner - 66, Anrich Nortje - 1/37, Ravichandran Ashwin - 1/35) defeated Delhi Capitals - 131 all out in 19 overs (Rishabh Pant - 36, Ajinkya Rahane - 26, Rashid Khan - 3/7, T Natarajan - 2/26) by 88 runs
