India opted to bat first in the first Test match and managed to get a 53-run lead in the first innings. Things were in control for the Virat Kohli-led Indian side at stumps on Day 2! They had a considerable first-innings lead and were eyeing to post a good total in their second innings, thereby pressurizing Australian batters in the fourth innings. However, things took a ugly turn as they bundled out for their lowest total.

36 – India were bowled out for this total in their second innings of Adelaide Test. This is India’s lowest team total in a single Test innings. Their previous lowest total was 42 against England at Lord’s in the year 1974. Overall, lowest score in a Test innings was by New Zealand – 26 vs England in 1954.
5/8 – Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood bagged five wickets conceding just 8 runs. These are his fourth best bowing figures in Test cricket! His best figures were also against India – 6/67 in 2017.
9 – Highest score in India’s batting line-up which was scored by Indian opener Mayank Agarwal. This is the first time for India where none of their batsmen failed to reach double digits in a Test innings! Only other instance in Test cricket was by South Africa against England in 1924 – with a best score of 7, none of their batsmen reached double figures!
0 – Number of centuries scored by Virat Kohli in the calendar year 2020. This is only the second time Kohli failed to score a century in a calendar year. Previous instance was in 2008, the year he made his debut in international cricket. In between the year 2008 and 2020, Kohli had scored 70 international centuries.
18 – Hazlewood with his five-for in India’s second innings became the 18th player from Australia to pick up 200 wickets in the Test format. Also he took only 25 balls to register his five-for in this innings.
19 – Number of innings taken by Indian opener Mayank Agarwal to complete 1000 runs in Test cricket. He is the third fastest Indian in terms of innings played to get to this milestone. Vinod Kambli (14 innings) and Cheteshwar Pujara (18 innings) were the first and second fastest among Indians to get to this milestone.
