India thump Australia in 2nd T20I to win series

Having opted to bowl first, India failed to contain Australia to a low total. Both regular openers David Warner and Aaron Finch are out of the game injured but the home team found themselves in a great position with the fire power they had in their bench strength. New opener and stand-in captain Matthew Wade scored 58 off just 32 deliveries to give them a start while Steven Smith batted brilliantly during the middle overs scoring 46 runs off just 38 deliveries.

All-rounders Glenn Maxwell (22 off 13), Moises Henriques (26 off 18) and Marcus Stoinis (16* off 7) all played cameos during the death overs which propelled Australia to 194/5 in 20 overs. Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who was the India's hero with the ball in the first T20I conceded 51 runs from his 4 overs. Deepak Chahar too had an off-day with the ball as conceded 48 runs from his 4 overs! T Natarajan was the pick of Indian bowlers with 2 wickets in his 4 overs conceding just 20 runs.

In reply, India started off slowly but the openers managed to add 56 runs for the first wicket. Shikhar Dhawan scored a half-century while captain Virat Kohli played a cameo of scoring 40 runs off just 24 deliveries. With wickets tumbling around, it was all down to Hardik Pandya to finish the game in the end. He duly deliveries scoring an unbeaten 42* runs off 22 deliveries to take India over the line with 6 wickets in hand and 2 balls to spare.

With this victory, India have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the 3-match T20I series. Hardik Pandya bagged the 'Player of the Match' award for his match-winning knock with the bat. The third and final T20I of the series will be played at the same venue on Tuesday.
