The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday (Jan 08) announced the schedule of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 edition. As per the schedule, the tournament opener will be played on Feb 20 in Karachi while the Final match will be played on Mar 22 in Lahore.
Owing to the ongoing pandemic, the whole tournament (30 round-robin games and 4 playoffs) will all be hosted in just two cities – Karachi and Lahore. The first 20 round-robin games will be played in Karachi while the remaining 10 round-robin and the 4 playoffs matches are to be hosted by Lahore.
The decision on allowing the crowd for these games is yet to be announced. “Decision on crowd attendances to be made closer to time after seeking government advice and clearance,” stated PCB in their press release.
“The Support Period for the HBL PSL 2021 will commence from 15 February and the foreign players competing in the league will arrive into Karachi with a negative PCR test. Upon arrival, they will require two more negative PCR tests before being allowed to train and compete in the competition. The asymptomatic players or support staff returning a positive test will have to serve a five-day isolation period with RT-PCR tests on day one and four,” added the press release.
Babar Hamid, Commercial Director, Pakistan Cricket Board:
“We are delighted to announce the schedule of our marquee event – the HBL Pakistan Super League, which for the second successive season will be held in Pakistan in its entirety.”
“We had to make the tough decision to limit matches to Karachi and Lahore, and this decision has been taken in the larger interest of the event, participants and the country. We want to limit the unnecessary exposure of the players as much as practically possible so that the players can operate in a safe and healthy environment that, in turn, will allow them to continue to entertain the fans and followers with their talent, skills and gamesmanship.”
The defending champions Karachi Kings are set to play against Quetta Gladiators in the tournament opener on Feb 20 in Karachi while the final round-robin match will be played between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars on March 16 at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore. The Qualifier and the two Eliminators will be played on March 18, 19 & 20 respectively with Final on March 22.
