England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued a media release about the non-availability of Sam Curran for the ongoing Test series in India. Two of the Test matches of the 4-match series have already been played in Chennai and two more Tests are left. Both of them are scheduled to be played at the newly built Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
England made a stunning start to the series with a brilliant victory in the first Test. And India won the second Test match by over a 300-run margin and squared the series. Visitors had already announced their squad for the third Test match and it did not go well with many of the cricket fans to see the name of Sam Curran missing in the list.
Curran was expected to join the Test squad ahead of the fourth Test match against India. However, he missed the last Test as well due to a “logistical challenge” during these pandemic times according to their cricket board. With this latest development, Curran would be featuring in the limited-overs format series in India.
“Sam Curran will rejoin the England squad via the charter flight carrying other members of the limited-overs squad to India on 26 February. Originally it was planned the Surrey all-rounder would fly to Ahmedabad in time to be available for the fourth Test in the city, starting on 4 March. However, in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, making secure arrangements for such a journey proved too great a logistical challenge,” stated ECB in their media release.
The 4-match series between India and England is currently level 1-1 with 2 more matches to go in the series. While both the first two Test matches were played in Chennai, the final two Tests are scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad. The third Test match is scheduled to begin on Wednesday (Feb 24).
