Bangladesh is hit with a big blow ahead of the must-win second and Final Test match in the ongoing 2-match series against West Indies. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will miss the second Test match owing to an injury he sustained during the first Test match of the series in Chattogram.
According to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Shakib was assessed continuously since suffering a left thigh strain on the Day 2 of the first Test match. And after “careful consideration”, the cricket board ruled out Shakib from the second Test match.
“Shakib has been assessed and monitored continuously since suffering a strain on his left thigh on the second day of the match in Chattogram and after careful consideration, it has been confirmed that he will not be available for the second Test,” stated BCB in their media release.
“Shakib will leave the team Bio-security Bubble this week and for the time being will be under the surveillance and treatment of the BCB Medical Team in Dhaka as he continues to recover and consolidate his physical robustness,” added the media release.
The Status of the Test series:
Shakib scored 68 runs in Bangladesh’s first innings of the first Test match and had only bowled 6 overs in West Indies’ first innings. He did neither bat nor bowl in the second innings of the first Test match which home team Bangladesh lost by a margin of 7 wickets courtesy a brilliant unbeaten double century from Windies’ debutant Kyle Mayers (210* not out)!
West Indies are currently leading the 2-match Test series by a margin of 1-0. The home team needs to win the second Test match in Dhaka to square the series and save pride at home. The Dhaka Test match is scheduled to be played beginning from Thursday (Feb 11).
