With Kane Williamson injured, wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham has been appointed as the stand-in captain for New Zealand in the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh. To double the thrill, the first ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh at the University Oval in Dunedin on March 20 is Latham’s 100th ODI match for New Zealand.

Coincidentally, Latham also made his ODI debut for New Zealand at the same venue in the year 2012 against Zimbabwe – scored 24 runs. Though he did not make a great impact on his debut, Latham has scored 4 centuries and 16 half-centuries in the 99 ODIs he represented New Zealand thus far.
“Personally, to play my first game down in Dunedin and also my 100th is going to be pretty cool. Great to be able to play one game for New Zealand, but to be able to play 100 is pretty special. My family and wife have come down, so it will be nice to celebrate that down there,” said Tom Latham reflecting on the milestone.
The 3-match ODI series between New Zealand and Bangladesh will be played beginning from March 20. The first ODI will be played in Dunedin while the second and third ODIs will be played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch (Mar 23) and at Basin Reserve in Wellington (Mar 26) respectively.
New Zealand whitewashed Bangladesh in the 3-match ODI series when these two teams last met each other in New Zealand in Feb 2019. This would be a morale-boosting stat for the New Zealand side who are going into the upcoming series against the same opponent without the services of their experienced campaigner Kane Williamson.
