Chennai Super Kings (CSK) put on their all-round performance to display in their game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday (Apr 19) to register a convincing victory. CSK also strengthened their position in the top 4 in the points table with this convincing victory. Rajasthan who are hit with multiple injuries at the moment are currently struggling with their performances.
Another failure for young CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad as he was dismissed for just 10 runs. His 13-ball stay at the crease has also a dropped catch in it. The other opener Faf du Plessis scored a quick-fire 17-ball 33 to give them a head start in the powerplay. Though Suresh Raina (18 off 15) struggled, Moeen Ali (26 off 20) and Ambati Rayudu (27 off 17) kept CSK in the hunt during the middle overs. Small cameos from Sam Curran (13 off 6) and Dwayne Bravo (20* off 8) towards the end helped them finish with 188/9 in 20 overs.
Chetan Sakariya was the pick of the Royals bowling unit as he picked up 3 wickets in his 4 overs. Chris Morris with 2 wickets, Mustafizur Rahman and Rahul Tewatia with a wicket each were the other wicket-takers in the Royals’ bowling line-up. Jayadev Unadkat who had a great first two games with the ball failed to pick up a single wicket in this match.
Chasing a mammoth target, the Royals lost two early wickets inside the powerplay. One of those wickets was the wicket of in-form Sanju Samson. Jos Buttler steadied the ship for a while but an implosion during the middle overs cost them the match. From 87/2 after 11 overs, Royals slipped to 95/7 in 14.3 overs. All the five wickets to fall during this phase fell for the spin bowling – Ravindra Jadeja bagged 2 of those 5 wickets while Moeen Ali bagged the remaining 3 wickets.
With cameos from Rahul Tewatia (20 off 15) and Jaydev Unadkat (24 off 17), Rajasthan Royals got to 143/9 in 20 overs. Lower order contributed with the bat later on in the chase but that effort was not enough. Eventually, Rajasthan lost the match by a margin of 45 runs. Moeen Ali was the pick of the CSK bowlers with 3 wickets from his 3 overs and was economical too, having conceded just 7 runs. Among other CSK bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran bagged 2 wickets each while Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo accounted for a wicket each.
