Jofra Archer to miss the entire IPL 2021 season

Rajasthan Royals pacer Jofra Archer had been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2021 season in India as he is still recovering from the finger injury. The same has been confirmed by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) through a media release. Prior to the season, Archer was expected to join the RR bubble after missing some of the starting games. However, it is now clear that Archer will not be coming to India for IPL 2021 edition.

“Archer returned to bowling this week with higher intensity, and the ECB and Sussex medical teams will continue to monitor his progress. Archer will now step up his training regime starting next week and will be in full training with Sussex,” stated ECB in a media release.

“It is expected that he will return to cricket in the next fortnight if he can continue to bowl and prepare pain-free. The ECB will confirm which matches he is expected to play in due course,” added the media release

This has come as a big blow for Rajasthan Royals who were expecting him to join the squad at least in the second half of the season. They had already lost their opener, Ben Stokes, after the first match against Punjab Kings owing to a finder injury. To compound their problems, Liam Livingstone too left the RR camp recently citing bubble fatigue.

At the moment, Rajasthan Royals are going with Jos Buttler, David Miller, Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman as their four overseas players. However, this combination is not reaping rewards for them as they had lost 3 out of their 4 games so far. Very soon, RR had to recruit new overseas players in the place of ruled-out players to at least have a chance to win games from here to make it to the IPL 2021 playoffs.
