New Zealand crush Bangladesh in rain-curtailed 3rd T20I

New Zealand have already taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in this 3-match series with comfortable victories in the first two games. The home team have also whitewashed the 3-match ODI series against Bangladesh prior to this T20I series. The third and final T20I was the only chance for Bangladesh to register a victory in this tour. However, home team New Zealand did not give them a chance to win this game! In the beginning, the toss and start of the match were delayed by rain and the match was cut short to a 10-overs-a-side affair.

After being sent into bat first, Kiwis openers Martin Guptill and Finn Allen added 85 runs for the first wicket in just 5.4 overs. Openers scored heavily in this game and carried them to a massive total. Guptill scored 44 runs off 19 balls (1 four, 5 sixes) while Allen scored 71 runs off just 29 deliveries (10 fours, 3 sixes). NZ completed their innings with a mammoth score of 141/4 in 10 overs.

With just 10 overs per each side, a bowler is allowed to bowl a maximum of 2 overs in this match. And each of the 5 bowlers Bangladesh used in this match conceded heavily! Shoriful Islam’s 21 runs in his 2 overs was the best spell and Mahedi Hasan’s 34 runs from his 2 overs was the most expensive bowler in this match!

During the chase, Bangladesh did not go into a shell but went for the win. In the process, they were bowled out for 76 runs conceding New Zealand a 65-run victory. With the target too big, Bangladesh had gone for a full kill and lost the game in the end! Though Bangladesh did not get anywhere near the target but their approach in this match they should boast about. Todd Astle was the pick of bowlers with 4 wickets while Tim Southee bagged 3 wickets!

Finn Allen has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his explosive knock at the top – 71 runs off just 29 deliveries. Glenn Phillips has been adjudged as the Player of the Series for his 96 runs with the bat and 2 wickets! With this victory, New Zealand completed 3-0 whitewash in the 3-match T20I series. Bangladesh tour of New Zealand 2021 comes to an end with this T20I series.
