Boasting a weak bowling attack, Delhi Capitals (DC) were clearly out of the game prior to this fixture. However, luck was on their side as they had won a crucial toss and opted to field first. Even though Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted a mammoth total, Delhi were able to chase it down with 8 balls to spare in their innings courtesy of a big factor ‘dew’!! Taking nothing away from their batting, Delhi openers batted brilliantly capitalizing on the conditions superbly!
After being sent into bat first, Chennai lost both their openers cheaply. While Faf du Plessis bagged a 3-ball Duck, Gaikwad scored just 5 runs. Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina added 53 runs for the third wicket before the former was dismissed by Ashwin. Raina continued on his merry way to get to his half-century (54 runs off 36 deliveries with 3 fours and 4 sixes) but was unlucky to be dismissed as run-out. Raina also shared a 63-run stand for the 4th wicket along with Ambati Rayudu.
With crucial contributions from Ravindra Jadeja (26* off 17) and Sam Curran (34 off 15) lower down the order, CSK finished with a massive 188/7 on the board in 20 overs. Young Avesh Khan had a game to remember as he dismissed both Faf and Dhoni for ducks each. Chris Woakes with 2 wickets, Ravi Ashwin and Tom Curran with a wicket each were the other wicket-takers for Delhi in this innings.
Chasing a good target, Delhi openers did not break any sweat as they added 138 runs for the first wicket. Prithvi Shaw (72 off 38 balls, 9 fours, 3 sixes) and Shikhar Dhawan (85 off 54 balls, 10 fours, 2 sixes) both scored half-centuries each. Courtesy of this mammoth stand, Delhi were able to chase down the target with 7 wickets in hand and 8 balls to spare.
