A complete flop show with the bat meant that New Zealand have taken a heavy beating in the first T20I of the 5-match series in Bangladesh. An inexperienced NZ side fielded in this game as they were bowled out for just 60 runs having opted to bat first! Yes, NZ were bowled out for just 60 runs which is their joint-lowest total in the history of T20I cricket.

It all went downhill after New Zealand captain Tom Latham opted to bat first. Their top 4 all departed with just 9 runs on the board. Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls scoring 18 runs each are the only NZ players to get into double digits. Eventually, NZ were bowled out for 60 runs in 16.5 overs. Mustafizur Rahman with bowling figures of 3/13 in his 2.5 overs was the pick of Bangladesh bowlers in this innings!
Chasing a very low target, Bangladesh lost both their openers who scored just a run each. Though NZ were able to dismiss Shakib al Hasan later on 25, Mushfiqur Rahim (16* off 26) and Mahmudullah (14* off 22) remained unbeaten to take them home with 7 wickets in hand and 5 overs to spare. Ajaj Patel and both the debutants Rachin Ravindra, Coel McConchie bagged a wicket each for NZ in this innings.
Shakib al Hasan has been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for picking up 2 wickets with the ball and scoring 25 runs on a tricky surface. Bangladesh are currently leading the 5-match series by 1-0. The second T20I will be played at the same venue on Friday (Sep 03).
