Team India on Wednesday (Sept 08) announced their squad for the upcoming World T20 2021. India have received a major boost with the appointment of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the mentor for this marquee event. India last won an ICC trophy in 2013 (Champions Trophy) under the leadership of MS and the trophy has eluded the Indian team since then!

No surprises in the captaincy department in the 15-member squad! Virat Kohli who is yet to win an ICC trophy is all set to lead India once again in this upcoming event! As per chief selector Chetan Sharma, Virat was picked as a non-opener in the squad. However, it is up to the team to decide on playing XI during the match!
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were selected as first-choice openers while Ishan Kishan will be their reserve. Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya will form India's middle order. With just 7 proper batsmen in the squad, India might miss a batsman in the top order if a sudden injury props up with back-to-back IPL 2021 and World T20!
As many as five spinners were selected in the squad and Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav were none of them! Surprised?! Ravichandran Ashwin recalled to the squad while Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, Rahul Chahar were the other four spinners in the squad.
With UAE and Oman hosting this tournament, India have opted for just three seamers - Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah! Hardik Pandya is fit to bowl and can play the role of fourth seamer if needed!
Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur are named as reserves to travel with the team On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw who opened for India in Sri Lanka have been ommitted from the squad. Is this the end of the line for Dhawan's T20I career? Don't think so!
The World T20 2021 will kick start on October 17 with Super 12 games beginning on October 23. India will play their first game of the tournament on October 24 against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai!
