Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has become the leading wicket-taker in the T20I format with the two wickets he picked in the match against Scotland last night in the First Round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. Shakib currently has 108 T20I wickets against his name while the record was earlier held by Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga who has picked 107 wickets.

Shakib picked up the wickets of Scotland's Richie Berrington and Michael Leask and he was economical too in his 4-over spell. With the wicket of Leask, Shakib got to this milestone! Only Shakib and Malinga are the players to have picked up 100 T20I wickets so far while New Zealand's Tim Southee (99) and Afghanistan's Rashid Khan (95) are approaching this milestone.
Shakib, when he got to the 100 T20I wickets earlier this year against Australia, became the first cricketer ever to bag 100 wickets and score 1000 runs in the T20I format! With the kind of form he is in, I believe Shakib can break many more records at the international level.
On the other hand, Bangladesh lost the match to Scotland last night by a little margin of 6 runs while chasing just 141 to win! Though Shakib got to the milestone, his team couldn't end up on the right side of the result! Bangladesh needs to both their remaining games against Oman and Papua New Guinea to have the best shot against qualification into the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup 2021!
