Visitors England side had an awful day at the office in Gabba on Day 1. Despite winning the toss and opting to bat first, they were bowled out for just 147 runs inside the first two sessions. Rain, later, played spoilsport and washed out the whole third session giving Australia the advantage on Day 1 in this crucial Ashes opener!

It all started with the first-ball Duck coped by Rory Burns in the very first over of the match who was bowled around the legs by Mitch Starc! It triggered a collapse as Pat Cummins bagged his five-for in his maiden innings as Test captain! Starc and Josh Hazlewood bagged two wickets each while Cameron Green bagged his maiden Test wicket.
Nothing went in favor of England except winning the toss on the first day at Gabba! No big partnerships stitched and no big scores either. Jos Buttler (39) and Ollie Pope (35) were the only players to go past the 30-run mark individually! Haseeb Hameed (25) and Chris Woakes (21) are the only others to get into double-digit scores! That sums it up!
As many as three England batsmen were dismissed for a Duck in this innings - Rory Burns (1st ball Duck), Joe Root (9-ball Duck), Ollie Robinson (3-ball Duck)! With this, England's tally of Ducks in Tests in 2021 has risen to 46! This is the second most for them in a calendar year with 54 Ducks in the year 1998 being their worst!
At the most, England would play five more innings this series in this year. There have all the chances in the world to break their own record this year and make it worse! Continuous rest and rotation policy and inexperience at the Test level should be held accountable for this worse record of England.
