Travis Head's 152 put Australia in command at Gabba

Australian middle-order batsman Travis Head had to face competition from Usman Khawaja to get a place in the XI ahead of the Gabba Test. But he grabbed the opportunity with both hands once he came out to bat in Australia's first innings. He singlehandedly outscored England's first innings score to put Australia in a commanding position at the Gabba.

Here are the statistical highlights from his brilliant century:

152 - Travis Head scored 152 runs as he took Australia to 425 in their first innings. This is the second 150+ score in Tests for Head after his 161 against Sri Lanka in Canberra in 2019. Head alone outscored England (147 all out) by 5 runs in the first innings!

85 - Head got to his century in just 85 deliveries. This is the second joint-fastest hundred for an Australian in terms of balls faced in an Ashes Test. In Ashes, Adam Gilchrist (at WACA in 2006) was their fastest in 57 deliveries and Joe Darling (at SCG in 1898) also got there in 85 deliveries!

1 - Travis Head became the first player to score an Ashes century in a single session at Gabba! The last Australian to score in a single session was Adam Gilchrist at WACA in 2016 when he scored 102 in the third session on the third day!

112* - Travis Head scored an unbeaten 112* in the third session on Day 2 at the Gabba. Only two scores bigger than Head's were scored for Australia in the third session of a Test match - Trumper's 133 against South Africa in 1911 and Bonnor's 113 against England in 1885!
