New Zealand take honors on Day 1 at Trent Bridge

Visitors New Zealand take control on Day 1 in the second Test match against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham after being asked to bat first on a green top by the home captain Ben Stokes! The call was to "bat-first" during the pitch report and it turned out to be the right decision at the end of the first day's play.

Vistors were dealt with a huge blow just a day ahead of the match with their captain Kane Williamson ruled out of the match with COVID-19! Tom Latham has been appointed as stand-in captain and it is so far so good for the Kiwis at Trent Bridge!

New Zealand managed to score 318 runs by stumps on Day 1 on which 87 overs were bowled! Daryl Mitchell (81*) and Tom Blundell (67*) were at the crease at the end of the to give NZ a great start in this Test match! The duo so far added an unbeaten 149* runs for the fifth wicket keeping England bowlers at bay!

James Anderson and Ben Stokes with two wickets each are the only successful England bowlers on Day 1. It was much expected from Broad at this venue and he is yet to pick a wicket in this first innings!
