India's 10-wicket victories over Zimbabwe in ODIs

India always maintained a very dominating record over Zimbabwe in the game of cricket! Be it any format, they have had the advantage even after fielding their second-string side. In the ODI format, India registered 52 wins out of the 62 matches played against Zimbabwe thus far.

India made a great start to their ongoing 2022 tour of Zimbabwe where 3 ODIs are to be played. The visitors India won the first ODI match on Thursday (Aug 18) by a margin of 10 wickets quite dominatingly to start the series on a high! Overall, this is the third time where India has registered a victory of such a margin against Zimbabwe in ODIs.

Let's take a look at all of India's three 10-wicket victories over Zimbabwe in ODIs.

#1. India vs Zimbabwe at Sharjah in 1988

India chose to field first after winning the toss against Zimbabwe in the Tri-series Final involving Sri Lanka as the third team. A great bowling effort from the Indians meant that they restricted Zimbabwe to just 196/9 in 50 overs. Javagal Srinath was the pick of Indian bowlers with a 3-wicket haul.

During the run-chase, Indian openers did not put a foot wrong as they helped India chase down the target in just 30 overs with all 10 wickets in hand. Sachin Tendulkar scored unbeaten 124* runs while Sourav Ganguly scored unbeaten 63* runs in this successful run-chase.

Sachin Tendulkar was adjudged Player of the Match in this match. For the record, Sachin scored 124* not out off 92 deliveries with 12 fours and 6 sixes. Also, he bagged a wicket (1/16) from his 4 overs in the first half of the match.


#2. India vs Zimbabwe at Harare in 2016

Zimbabwe already lost the series by 2-0 heading into this third and final ODI back in 2016! India won the first two ODIs by a thumping 9-wicket and 8-wicket margins respectively! This match was just a dead rubber and India pounced with a record 10-wicket victory.

Zimbabwe put on just 123 runs before getting bowled out after electing to bat first. Bumrah was the pick of Indian bowlers with a 4-wicket haul. During the run-chase, KL Rahul (63*) and Faiz Fazal (55*) chased down the target without losing a single wicket!

Rahul had been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his unbeaten half-century and taking two catches on the field. He has also effected a run-out. On the other hand, this was the only match that Faiz Fazal (who is 36 now) represented India so far in any format at the International level!


#3. India vs Zimbabwe at Harare in 2022

Shikhar Dhawan (81*) and Shubman Gill (82*) helped India chase down the target without losing a wicket in the first ODI of the 3-match series. This was also a 3rd opening 100+ partnership for this opening pair in ODIs.

Earlier in the match, Zimbabwe did score 189 runs before getting all out in 40.3 overs setting a target of 190 runs for India. Deepak Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, and Axar Patel all bagged 3 wickets each. Deepak Chahar was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant spell upfront in the match!
