Pakistan escape Netherlands scare in the first ODI

Fakhar Zaman's 109 and collective bowling effort helped Pakistan just edge out the Netherlands in the 1st ODI of the 3-match series at Rotterdam! Fakhar (109 off 109) and Babar Azam (74 off 85) made a slow start but that did not cost them the match as their bowlers bailed them out in this close 16-run victory!

Toss Update: Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first.

Having opted to bat first, Pakistan scored 314 on the board losing 6 wickets in 50 overs. Their top order played very slowly and Pakistan were only targeting 270 at one stage of their innings! If not for brisk knocks from Shadab Khan (48* off 28) and Agha Salman (27* off 16), they would have never crossed the 300-run mark!

Netherlands, chasing 315 runs to win, managed to score 298 losing 8 wickets in 50 overs. Scott Edwards (71*), Tom Cooper (65), and Vikramjit Singh (65) all made half-centuries but they fell just short of the target! Considering the experience of the Pakistan bowling attack, this is a superb performance from the home team with the bat!

Match result: Pakistan defeated Netherlands by a margin of 16 runs.

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 109 runs with the bat off 109 balls with 12 fours and a six. Pakistan currently lead the 3-match series by 1-0 with the second ODI on Thursday (Aug 18) at the same venue.

Brief Scores: Pakistan: 314-6 in 50 overs (Fakhar Zaman 109, Bas de Leede 2-42) defeated Netherlands: 298-8 in 50 overs (Scott Edwards 71*, Naseem Shah 3-51) by a margin of 16 runs
