Indian pacers Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar were impressive upfront with the ball while KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat as India comfortably defeated South Africa in the 1st T20I of the 3-match series in Trivandrum! As a matter of fact, South Africa lost their first five wickets for just 9 runs on the board before making a comeback to get past the 100-run mark!

Toss Update: India won the toss and opted to field first.
After being sent into bat first, South Africa scored 106 on the board losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Deepak Chahar cleaned up SA captain Temba Bavuma in the first over while Arshdeep bagged 3 wickets in the 2nd over! And with the wicket of Tristan Stubbs in the 3rd over, the visiting side was reduced to 9/5 inside 3 overs to give India an early advantage in this 3-match series!
Aiden Markram (25 off 24) and Wayne Parnell (24 off 37) led the recovery act with a 33-run stand for the 6th wicket. And Keshav Maharaj scored crucial 41 runs at no. 8 position to get his side past the 100-run mark. It was a great comeback from the Proteas batting unit to get to 106/8 in 20 overs. Most importantly, the lower batting unit did not let Indian bowlers bowl them out!
India, chasing 107 runs to win, managed to score 110 losing 2 wickets in 16.4 overs. Rohit Sharma bagged a duck while Virat Kohli scored just 3 runs before getting dismissed and this was the only phase India looked a bit nervous during the run-chase! Suryakumar Yadav (50* off 33) and KL Rahul (51* off 56) each scored unbeaten half-centuries as India chased down the total with 8 wickets in hand and 3.2 overs to spare!
Match result: India defeated South Africa by a margin of 8 wickets.
Arshdeep Singh has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 3-32 from his 4 overs. The 3-match T20I series is now in favor of India 1-0. The second T20I match of this series will be played on Sunday (Oct 02) in Guwahati.
