Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell helped Australia comfortably defeat Sri Lanka in the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 tournament. Their brisk innings with the bat also ensured Australia chased down the target with 3.3 overs to spare in their innings gaining a good Net Run Rate.

Toss Update: Australia won the toss and opted to field first.
After being sent into bat first, Sri Lanka scored 157 on the board losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka (40 off 45) and Charith Asalanka (38 off 25) contributed to this par score on the board. Nissanka would have liked to batted with a better strike to give them a good chance with the ball later in the match!
Mitchell Marsh coming back to bowl was a big positive for the hosts. He bowled just an over conceding 14 runs though!
Australia, chasing 158 runs to win, managed to score 158 losing 3 wickets in 16.3 overs. During the run-chase, they were under pressure until the fall of the first 2 wickets with Aaron Finch struggling to put bat to ball. Finch remained unbeaten on 31* off 42 deliveries as they romped home with 7 wickets in hand and 21 balls remaining in their innings!
However, the star of the show was Marcus Stoinis who scored a brilliant unbeaten 59* off just 18 deliveries including 4 fours and 6 sixes. He got to his half-century in just 17 deliveries which was the fastest by any Australian in the T20I format. He bettered the record of 18 balls jointly held previously by Glenn Maxwell (twice) and David Warner.
