Toss Update: England won the toss and opted to field first.
After being sent into bat first, Afghanistan scored 112 on the board losing 10 wickets in 19.4 overs. Sam Curran bagged a 5-wicket haul picking up 5 wickets conceding just 10 runs from his 3.4 overs as Afghanistan only managed to get to a below-par total on the board.
Ibrahim Zadran (32 off 32) and Usman Ghani (30 off 30) scored in the 30s but there were very little contributions with the bat from the other Afghan batters in this match. Ben Stokes (2-19), Mark Wood (2-23), and Chris Woakes (1-24) also bowled superbly.
England, chasing 113 runs to win, managed to score 113 losing 5 wickets in 18.1 overs. One would have expected big-hitting England to chase down this target very easily. However, Afghan spinners really slowed down the scoring rate. England, eventually, chased down the target with Moeen Ali (8* off 10) hitting the winning runs and Liam Livingstone (29* off 21) at the other end.
Five of the six Afghanistan bowlers in this match bagged a wicket as England romped home with 11 balls to spare in their innings.
Match result: England defeated Afghanistan by a margin of 5 wickets.
Sam Curran has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 5-10 from his 3.4 overs.
