Glenn Phillips outscored Sri Lanka as NZ register big win

Glenn Phillips with the bat and Trent Boult with the ball starred for New Zealand as they comfortably defeated Sri Lanka in the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 tournament at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. The winning margin was so considerable that New Zealand got a significant boost to their already heavy NRR.

Toss Update: New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first.

Having opted to bat first, New Zealand scored 167 on the board losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Glenn Phillips single-handedly scored a century carrying them to a competitive total on the board. He scored 104 runs off 64 deliveries including 10 fours and 4 sixes. The second-best score in New Zealand's scorecard was 22 by Daryl Mitchell!

It was a great effort by the Sri Lankan bowlers during the powerplay conceding just 25 runs while claiming 3 wickets. The two drop catches giving much-needed reprieves to Phillips took the game away from the Sri Lankans after the powerplay! Kasun Rajitha (2-23) and Wanindu Hasaranga (1-22) ended up with decent bowling figures in this innings.

Eventually, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 102 runs losing to Phillips alone by 2 runs! Trent Boult was the pick of New Zealand bowlers with figures of 4-13 from his 4 overs.

Match result: New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of 65 runs.

Glenn Phillips has been adjudged the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 104 runs off 64 deliveries including 10 fours and 4 sixes.
