Toss Update: Australia won the toss and opted to field first.

After being sent into bat first, England scored 208 on the board losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. Alex Hales (84) and Jos Buttler (68) gave them a solid foundation adding 132 runs for the first wicket. Hales departed in the 16th over and missed his golden opportunity to score his maiden T20I hundred.

Ben Stokes made a return to the playing XI at no. 3 while Dawid Malan was demoted to no. 7. This surely was the rotation policy from the England team ahead of the crucial T20 World Cup later this month. Among Aussie bowlers, Nathan Ellis bowled brilliantly bagging 3 wickets and conceding just 20 runs from his 4 overs.

Australia, chasing 209 runs to win, managed to score 200 losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh (36 off 26) and Marcus Stoinis (35 off 15) scored in the 30s but it was the wicket of David Warner (73 off 44) who was dismissed in the 17th over changed the course of the match toward England's favor.

Matthew Wade who scored 21 runs off 15 deliveries was the center of a controversy when he was obstructing Mark Wood from taking a catch off his own bowling to dismiss Wade. Fortunately, England captain Jos Buttler watered the moment by not appealing for obstruction!

Among England bowlers, Mark Wood returned figures of 3-34 from his 4 overs while Reece Topley and Sam Curran bagged 2 wickets each. Adil Rashid bagged the sole wicket of Mitch Marsh but conceded 41 runs just from his 3 overs.

Match result: England defeated Australia by a margin of 8 runs.

Alex Hales has been declared as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 84 runs off 51 deliveries with 12 fours and 3 sixes. England are currently leading the 3-match T20I series 1-0 with the second T20I of the series on Wednesday (Oct 12).

Brief Scores: England: 208-6 in 20 overs (Alex Hales - 84, Nathan Ellis - 3-20) defeated Australia: 200-9 in 20 overs (David Warner - 73, Mark Wood - 3-34) by a margin of 8 runs
