Ireland beat England as per DLS score on a rainy day

Andy Balbirnie and Josh Little helped Ireland comfortably defeat England in the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 tournament. This is Ireland's first match at the MCG and they defeated tournament favorites which gives them intense satisfaction in this Super 12 round.

Toss Update: England won the toss and opted to field first.

After being sent into bat first, Ireland scored 157 on the board losing 10 wickets in 19.2 overs. Captain Andy Balbirnie led from the front scoring 62 runs off just 47 deliveries including 5 fours and 2 sixes. Lorcan Tucker (34 off 27) played a pivotal role in the 82-run partnership for the 2nd wicket along with his captain.

Among England bowlers, Liam Livingstone (3-17) and Mark Wood (3-34) claimed 3 wickets each while Sam Curran (2-31) took his wickets tally to 7 in just 2 matches this World Cup. Ben Stokes bowled an economical spell registering figures of 1-8 from his 2.2 overs.

England, chasing 158 runs to win, managed to score 105 losing 5 wickets in 14.3 overs. They lost both their openers collectively for just 7 runs which includes a 2-ball Duck for Jos Buttler. The rest also batted very slowly with Dawid Malan scoring 35 off 37 balls, Ben Stokes scoring 6 off 8, and Harry Brook scoring 18 off 21 balls!

Moeen Ali was batting on 24* off 12 deliveries and Livingstone was on 1* off 2 when rain made an appearance in the 15th over. England, at that point, were 105-5 in 14.3 overs. They were found to be 5 runs short as per the DLS score and Ireland were adjudged winners with play did not resume afterward due to rain!

Match result: Ireland defeated England by a margin of 5 runs (as per the DLS method).

Andy Balbirnie has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 62 runs off 47 deliveries including 5 fours and 2 sixes.
