West Indies beat Zimbabwe in a high-octane thriller

Johnson Charles and Alzarri Joseph starred as West Indies comfortably defeated Zimbabwe in the 7th match of the First Round of the T20 World Cup 2022 edition in Hobart to stay alive in the race for Super 12. Zimbabwe were clear favorites to win this match at the halfway stage but they fumbled with the bat during the run-chase.

Toss Update: West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first.

Having opted to bat first, West Indies scored 153 on the board losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. They had a slow start with boundaries being very large relatively! Johnson Charles showed signs of form with 45 runs while Rovman Powell (28 off 21) and Akeal Hosein (23* off 18) helped them get past the 150-run mark with a crucial 49-run stand for the 7th wicket.

Sikandar Raza was the pick of Zimbabwean bowlers with figures of 3-19 from 4 overs. His bowling was the reason why runs dried up during the middle overs for the Windies. Blessing Muzarabani bowled his first 3 overs superbly before conceding 16 runs from his 4th over (20th over of the innings). He finished with the figures of 2-38 from his 4 overs. 

Zimbabwe, chasing 154 runs to win, managed to score 122 losing 10 wickets in 18.2 overs. They lost their first 4 wickets with just 58 runs on the board and with the wicket of Sikandar Raza as the 5th wicket with 64 runs on the board brought back Windies into the game! Luke Jongwe played a few strokes towards the end but his effort was not enough to take them over the line!

Alzarri Joseph was the pick of Windies bowlers with figures of 4-16 from his 4 overs. It was his bowling that helped them beat Zimbabwe comfortably from a position of bother! Jason Holder also returned figures of 3-12 from his 3.2 overs and he completed 50 wickets in T20Is in the process.

Match result: West Indies defeated Zimbabwe by a margin of 31 runs.

Alzarri Joseph has been adjudged as the Player of the Match for his crucial contribution of 4-16 from his 4 overs.
