England veteran batter Joe Root puts his name forward for the upcoming IPL auction for the next IPL season. The mini-auction is set to happen on December 23 as per the updates from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This will be the second time that Root is entering the IPL auction but was unsuccessful to get a contract the first time.

As per the reports, BCCI is planning to schedule IPL 2023 season in India and will also be bringing back the home and away matches for each franchise. If this is put into action as per the plan, it would be a great opportunity for the overseas players which will help them to get acclimatized to the conditions and pass on the experiences to their respective teams once they are back to India later in the year for the ODI World Cup.
Joe Root would also be hoping to get into any of the franchises for the next season to get some understanding of the conditions here in India! He was earlier entered the IPL 2018 auction but did not get any bidders for himself and did not try since then.
Root was also busy with his international assignments and as a Test captain back then and played very little T20 cricket, be it International, domestic, or in any franchise leagues. His only exposure to franchise cricket was back in 2018-19 in which he scored 93 runs from 7 games with a decent strike rate.
Root so far has featured in just 32 T20Is for England with his last appearance in this format coming against Pakistan in May 2019! He scored 47 runs off 42 deliveries in that match and did not get a chance to play for his team in the T20I team since then!
IPL auction is sometimes crazy where we have players in their prime who were not picked but Cheteshwar Pujara can still bag an IPL contract! We cannot rule out Root's possibility here but his fate is set to be decided in December when the auction takes place!
