Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian cricketer known as "the Gabbar," has played prominent roles over the years for India - as an opener and a great fielder. The Punjabi Tadka ("thigh-five") that he takes to the cricket ground after taking any catch has made him renowned all around the world. Shikhar Dhawan's personality may best be described by the way he celebrates in the arena!

We are currently living in testing times and in the absence of several first-choice captaincy candidates, Shikhar Dhawan has been entrusted with the limited-overs captaincy responsibilities in some of India's assignments.
After the MS Dhoni era, Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma were the two players who shared the captain's hat most frequently and were renowned for taking their team over the line with their contributions. All three captains have great records with MS Dhoni becoming the only captain ever to win all three ICC titles - ODI World Cup (2011), T20 World Cup (2007), and Champions Trophy (2013).
On the other hand, Dhawan has had a relatively short amount of time to serve as captain of the Men in Blue. However, he has always been a team player who has made significant contributions with the bat and has been a safe pair of hands on the field. In fact, he was explosive with the bat when India won Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni in 2013 in England.
India has won all three ODI series under the leadership of Dhawan. Their first victory was in Sri Laka where they won a 3-match series by 2-1 in July last year. The remaining two ODI series victories came this year against West Indies (3-0 in July 2022 in West Indies) and South Africa (2-1 in Oct 2022 in India). All these are 3-match ODI series.
As Dhawan's men are gearing up for another 3-match ODI series in New Zealand, we believe that India is going to enter into the series with full confidence from the recent T20I series victory in New Zealand on this tour. This is going to be the first time Dhawan would captain an Indian side in SENA countries and surely he would like to take this opportunity to cement his place in India's ODI World Cup next year.
