Bazball has been making rounds since Brendon McCullum took charge as head coach of England earlier this year and today that term seems to have come into full effect! On a flat track, England showed everyone what they are capable of with the bat even in the longest format of the game!
Joe Root might feel that he missed out on a certain hundred that was there for the taking on a pitch in Rawalpindi that resembled a cement road! He who made 23 runs off 31 deliveries before walking back was the only player on Day 1 to miss out on triple figures before getting dismissed.
Ben Duckett playing Test cricket for the first time in 6 years scored 107 runs while under pressure Zak Crawley scored 122 runs. Ollie Pope walked in at no. 3 scored 108 runs and Harry Brook was the fourth centurion on Day 1 for England with an undefeated 101* runs at the stumps on Day 1.
Pakistan handed debuts four players in this match and two of those had a very weird first day of Test cricket! Spinner Zahid Mahmood conceded 160 runs from just his 23 overs! The other debutant Saud Shakeel was hit for six fours in a single over by Harry Brook!
England captain Ben Stokes walked out to bat in the 71st over and showed no signs of staying back! In just the 16 deliveries he faced, he scored 34 runs with 6 fours and a six. Bad light stopped play at 75 overs and it did not resume later on or else England's score would have been unimaginable on this flat track which might receive demerit points at the end of this Test!
Brief Scores: England - 506/4 (Zak Crawley - 122, Ollie Pope - 108, Ben Duckett - 107*, Harry Brook - 101*) at the stumps on Day 1 in Rawalpindi
