At the toss, RCB's stand-in captain Kohli stated that they intend to use Faf du Plessis as an impact player and will come out when they bat. While they have plans to replace him during fielding with Vijaykumar Vyshak thereby giving Faf enough rest to recover.

This will be the first Virat will be captaining the RCB side since he stepped down from the role after the IPL 2021 season. And it is to be seen how he is going to lead his troops in the absence of Faf. For the record, Virat was either stepped down or sacked from Indian captaincy in all the formats and it has been a while since he captained a professional cricket team!

The home team is being led by Sam Curran in the absence of injured Shikhar Dhawan. Sam won the toss and chose to bowl first with explosive batter Liam Livingstone coming into their XI.
