Cameron Green sustained an injury after being hit on the head by a bouncer from Kagiso Rabada and was subsequently substituted. Marnus Labuschagne took Green's place as No.8 and used this opportunity to showcase his abilities to the selectors for Australia's ODI World Cup squad.

Labuschagne came into the game when the score was 5-72 and aimed to prove himself worthy of a spot in the team despite being left out of the provisional 15-player touring party recently announced by Cricket Australia. Marnus ended his innings with an unbeaten 80* off 93 balls with 8 fours.

Marnus Labuschagne played an outstanding innings as hit six boundaries in his first 21 balls, and his performance was instrumental in helping Australia chase down South Africa's target of 222. This victory marked a good start for their World Cup preparations.

In 2019, Marnus Labuschagne replaced Steve Smith as a concussion substitute during the Ashes at Lord's. He scored a half-century in that innings, which proved to be a turning point in his career. Since then, he has consistently averaged over 50 and has become a regular fixture in the Australian Test team.
