Mushfiqur Rahim to miss Super 4 fixture against India

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted an extension of leave to wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. He will miss their only remaining Super 4 match against India to be with his newborn child and family, as per the statement released by the board.

"Mushfiqur has informed us that his wife is still recovering, and he needs to be by her side and with their children at this time. We fully understand his situation and have decided to permit him to skip the game," said BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Mohammed Jalal Yunus as per BCB's latest media release.

Mushfiqur had returned to Bangladesh for the birth of his second child. Initially, he was expected to rejoin the team in Colombo for the India match, but he will now stay in Dhaka with his family.

Bangladesh had an unfortunate performance in the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four round, losing both their matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. As a result, they were eliminated from the ongoing Asia Cup tournament in Sri Lanka. Their upcoming game against India had no bearing on the final outcome of the tournament and was considered a mere formality.

India had already qualified for the Final after back-to-back wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in consecutive matches spanning three days.
