Bangladesh were dealt a big blow as their in-form opener Najmul Hossain Shanto has been ruled out of the rest of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 tournament owing to a hamstring injury. Coming into bat at no.3 and no. 4 respectively against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in both the group games, Shanto had scored runs with utmost ease.

"The left-hander, who scored 89 and 104 in the group games against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan respectively, felt some discomfort in his left hamstring during the course of his innings against Afghanistan in Lahore on Sunday. An MRI was performed on Monday of the affected area," stated a media release from Bangladesh Cricket Board.
"The player had complained of hamstring pain during batting and could not field. We had an MRI scan done confirming a muscle tear. As a precaution, Shanto will not take any further part in the tournament and will be returning home to start rehab and prepare for the World Cup," added the report.
Bangladesh had already made it to the Super 4s round of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament. They had lost to Pakistan at Gadaffi Stadium on Wednesday (Sep 06) and had games against Sri Lanka and India in this round.
