In the first ODI of the three-match series, India took a 1-0 lead after comfortably defeating Australia by 5 wickets. Both Indian openers scored in the 70s, and two half-centuries in the middle-order helped India chase down a modest total easily in Mohali. It's worth noting that Shami had a five-wicket haul in the first half of the match.

Toss Update: India won the toss and opted to field first.
In their 50 overs, Australia lost all their 10 wickets and scored 276 runs while batting first. Mitchell Marsh was out in the first over, but Steve Smith and David Warner had a great partnership of 94 runs for the second wicket. Even though Warner scored a half-century, India made a comeback after his dismissal in the 19th over.
Labuschagne couldn't take advantage of the opportunity he got when Rahul missed a throw from SKY to effect a run-out, and got out on 39. Australia reached a total of 276 in 50 overs with Cameron Green contributing 31 runs, and Josh Inglis making a run-a-ball 45. Pat Cummins' unbeaten 9-ball 21 was also noteworthy.
Mohammed Shami, the Indian pacer, grabbed five wickets while conceding only 51 runs from his 10 overs. His brilliant performance helped India make comebacks in crucial phases of the game. The achievement of the player on the Mohali pitch is truly worth acknowledging.
India managed to chase down a target of 277 runs, scoring 281 runs and losing only 5 wickets in 48.4 overs. The chase started off well, with the openers partnering for 142 runs for the first wicket. Ruturaj was dismissed on 71 after he missed a straight delivery from Zampa that struck his pads. Unfortunately, a mix-up between Gill and Shreyas Iyer resulted in the latter's dismissal.
India had a strong start with openers making a solid partnership of 142 runs. However, they lost some momentum and were reduced to 151/3 in the next four overs. Captain KL Rahul played an excellent innings, adding 34 runs for the fourth wicket with Ishan Kishan and then an impressive 80-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Suryakumar Yadav.
Yadav also scored a half-century, but unfortunately departed with India just short of the victory target. Nonetheless, his performance was outstanding in the match. India won the match with Rahul finishing with a six in the 49th over to go 1-0 up in the series.

Mohammed Shami was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding display of bowling, taking 5 wickets for 51 runs in 10 overs, which included a maiden over. The second ODI is scheduled to be played at Indore on Sunday, September 24.
