Bangladesh lost their first four wickets with just 56 runs on the board after being sent into bat first. Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim (66 off 75) bailed them out with a brilliant 96-run stand for the 5th wicket. However, Shakib (40 off 51) had gone for his shots after being down with hamstring cramps as the stand was finally broken 30th over.
Mahmudullah (41* off 49) played a valuable hand towards the end as Bangladesh ended up with 245/9 in 50 overs. Lockie Ferguson was brilliant with the ball for New Zealand as he troubled Bangladesh batters with his sheer pace while returning figures of 3/49 from his 10 overs.
During the run chase, New Zealand's only down moment was losing Rachin Ravindra cheaply and early in the 3rd over! Devon Conway scored 45 runs and Kane Williamson scored 78 runs to give them a proper start with an 80-run stand for the 2nd wicket.
Williamson, eventually, had to go back as retired hurt and will not be available for the next few games! But he played his part with the bat in this match! Daryl Mitchell unbeaten on 89* and Glenn Phillips' unbeaten 16* took New Zealand over the line with 8 wickets in hand 7.1 overs to spare.
Lockie Ferguson bagged the Player of the Match award for his 3-wicket haul with the ball that set up this run chase brilliantly. With this victory, New Zealand solidified its position at the top with 3 wins in as many games in this World Cup 2023 edition.
