In what could be the biggest upset of the ODI World Cup 2023 edition, the Netherlands led by their captain Scott Edwards defeated South Africa in Lucknow. Interestingly, the Netherlands also defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup last year in Australia which cost the latter their spot in the semi-finals!

In this Lucknow match, Scott Edwards scored an unbeaten 69-ball 78* and took them to 245/8 in their 43 overs from a position of 140/7! The 64 and 41-run partnerships respectively he shared with Roelof van der Merwe for the 8th wicket and Aryan Dutt for the 9th wicket proved to be match-winning in the end!
Speaking at the end of the match after victory, Edwards was very grateful for their maiden World Cup victory. He stayed about the importance of the partnerships they built and the kind of support they get from their fans back from home!
"Hopefully a few more wins to come. In both games, we were in decent positions and then fell away. Nice to get in a few partnerships to get a total we thought was competitive. Am sure there are plenty of fans staying up and watching the game. Always a lot of supporters around, grateful for the support. Hopefully a few messages from them," said Scott Edwards.
"We came into the tournament where we wanted to have a chance in the semi-finals and if you wanna do that you gotta beat teams and South Africa are one of the favorites the way they are playing, so it is a good win for us," added the Netherlands captain.
