Rohit, bowlers made light work of Pakistan in Ahmedabad

India crushed Pakistan in front of around 100K crowd in Ahmedabad in the 15th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 edition in India! There was a lot of thrill and excitement from both sides going into this encounter but the Pakistan team proved to be too weak for the all-mighty Indian side.

Pakistan was bowled out for just 191 runs after being sent into bat first. Five Indian bowlers bagged two wickets each making it only the third such instance in the history of ODI World Cups! It was such great bowling from the Indians as Pakistan lost their last 7 wickets for just 36 runs!

Pakistan openers provided them a good start while Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan added 82 runs for the third wicket. However, it was all a complete slide from the point Babar Azam departed in the 30th over! From a comfortable position of 155/3 in the 30th over, Pakistan were bowled out for 191 in the 43rd over!

During the run chase, Indian captain Rohit Sharma held one end tight with his superb knock of 86 runs off just 63 deliveries that included 6 fours and 6 sixes.  The century was there for the taking but a slow delivery from Shaheen cost Rohit his wicket. Shubman Gill (16) and Virat Kohli (16) were the only others to depart in this Indian innings!

Shreyas Iyer too batted brilliantly taking India to a 7-wicket victory in the 31st over while remaining unbeaten on 53 runs. Jasprit Bumrah bagged Player of the Match award for his bowling figures of 2/19 from his 7 overs. Seems like the two brilliant off-cutters he used to dismiss both Rizwan and Shadab won him the award!

This is the 8th time India defeated Pakistan in an ODI World Cup match and are maintaining a 100% winning record in this tournament against Pakistan.

Brief Scores: India - 192/3 in 30.3 overs (Rohit Sharma - 86, Shreyas Iyer - 53*, Shaheen Shah Afridi - 2/36) defeated Pakistan - 191 all out in 42.5 overs (Babar Azam - 50, Mohammad Rizwan - 49, Jasprit Bumrah - 2/19, Hardik Pandya - 2/34) by a margin of 7 wickets
