Sri Lanka Sets 291-Run Target in 3rd New Zealand ODI

Sri Lanka showcased a commendable performance at Eden Park in Auckland during the third ODI against New Zealand on January 11, 2025. Despite facing significant injury setbacks going into the 3rd and final ODI of the series, the Sri Lankan team managed to put up a fight.

Pathum Nissanka scored an impressive 50 runs off just 31 balls, including four fours and four sixes, before retiring hurt Nissanka again came out to bat in the 34th over after the fall of 4th wicket. Kusal Mendis also made a notable contribution with a solid 54 off 48 deliveries. These performances provided Sri Lanka with a strong start in the match.

New Zealand was aiming for a series whitewash with a win in this 3rd ODI, with the series already secured by the Black Caps in the first two games. Eden Park is known for its fast-paced, batsman-friendly conditions, which might have played a role in the performances seen during the match.

Courtesy of late scalps from Matt Henry who bagged a 4-wicket haul on his way to 150 wickets in this format, New Zealand was able to restrict Sri Lanka to a total of 290/8 in 50 overs.
