After being sent in to bat first, RCB openers got them off to a flier with Devdutt (56 off 42) registering his fifty! Finch provided him good support from the other end as the duo added 90 runs for the first wicket in 11 overs. Virat Kohli (14 off 13) and AB de Villiers (51 off 30) stabilized the innings for a while and the latter continued till the end which helped RCB finish with 163/5 in 20 overs.
Rashid Khan failed to pick up a wicket while his fellow bowlers Natarajan, Vijay Shankar and Abhishek Sharma bagged a wicket each. RCB lost the other two wickets as run-outs. Meanwhile, SRH all-rounder Mitchell Marsh twisted his ankle while delivering his second delivery and did not take the field for the rest of the innings and also had come to bat at No. 10 position during the run chase! That's too down a position for a player of Mitch's quality.
Chasing a good total, SRH dealt a big blow losing the wicket of David Warner in just the second over. Bowler Umesh Yadav deflected a straight hit from Jonny Bairstow to hit the stumps which caught Warner (6 off 6) short of his crease! Bairstow (61 off 43) and Manish Pandey (34 off 33) kept SRH in the game for a while with a 71-run partnership for the second wicket.
Once RCB got through this duo, it was just a matter of time before SRH collapsed! Among others, none except debutant Priyam Garg (12 off 13) got into double figures! With two more deliveries remaining in their innings, SRH were cleaned up for 153 runs conceding a 10-run victory.
Chahal is the pick of RCB bowlers with three wickets conceding just 18 runs in his 4 overs and deservingly had been adjudged as the 'Player of the Match'. There was a lot of talk about RCB's bowling and their inability to defend even bigger targets but they have squashed all those comments for now with this 10-run victory!
