Australia to Play One Extra ODI in Sri Lanka Tour

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a revised schedule for Australia's upcoming tour in 2025. The initial plan included a two-match Test series and one ODI, but following consultations with Cricket Australia, an additional ODI has been added to the itinerary.

The Australian men's team will now play two Tests and two One-Day Internationals during their visit to Sri Lanka. This adjustment comes as both teams prepare for crucial engagements in the ICC World Test Championship cycle, with Australia currently holding the second position and Sri Lanka not far behind in third.

Having already won the BGT series by 3-1 against India, Australia and South Africa will face-off in the Final. The result of this 2-match Test series in Sri Lanka will have no impact on the rest of the WTC 2023-25 cycle.

The decision to add another ODI reflects a mutual interest in enhancing the cricketing exchange between the two nations, providing more opportunities for players to gain experience in the format ahead of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. This revision ensures that the tour will offer a comprehensive test of skills across different formats of the game for these two teams.

This move also aligns with Sri Lanka's strategy to bounce back after a less than satisfactory performance in the previous ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, aiming to regain momentum and form on their home turf.
