LSG appoints 27-crore Rishabh Pant as captain for IPL 2025

Rishabh Pant has officially been appointed as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the upcoming IPL 2025 season, marking a significant transition for the franchise. Pant, who was the highest-paid player in the IPL 2025 mega auction, was bought by LSG for a record-setting INR 27 crore (approximately US$ 3.21 million).

This move comes after LSG decided not to retain their former captain, KL Rahul, who led the team for the first three seasons. Under Rahul's leadership, LSG reached the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 but finished seventh in the standings in 2024, indicating a need for fresh leadership.

Pant brings to the team not only his dynamic wicketkeeping and hard-hitting batting skills but also his captaincy experience from his tenure with the Delhi Capitals, where he led from 2021 to 2024, except for the 2023 season due to a car accident.

His return to leadership is seen as a strategic choice by LSG to reinvigorate the team with his aggressive style and tactical acumen. The decision to appoint Pant was also influenced by his ability to handle pressure situations, demonstrated by his remarkable performance in international cricket, including a match-winning pressure-soaking knocks for India.

With new coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan by his side, Pant is expected to drive LSG towards their maiden IPL title. This appointment has stirred excitement among fans and analysts, eagerly awaiting to see how Pant's leadership will shape LSG's performance in the new season.
