Youngster Sediqullah Atal has secured his spot in the team following an outstanding performance in the recent ODI series against Zimbabwe, where he clinched the Player of the Series award with 156 runs in December last year, including a century and a fifty across two matches he batted.

Apart from the 15 players named in the Champions Trophy Squad, the Afghanistan Cricket Board also named a reserve players list that includes the likes of Darwish Rasooli, Nangyal Kharoti, and Bilal Sami.

Afghanistan will play their first match of the tournament against the tournament favorites South Africa on Friday (Feb 21) in Karachi.
