The first match of the ODI tri-series in Lahore on Saturday (Feb 08), was marred by significant injury scares to two key players from both sides, Haris Rauf of Pakistan and Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand. Both incidents brought a sobering moment to what was otherwise an exciting game of cricket.

Haris Rauf, Pakistan's express pace bowler, suffered what was later confirmed as a low-grade side strain early in New Zealand's innings. Rauf showed signs of discomfort after delivering just 6.2 overs, taking one wicket for 23 runs. He left the field with a side strain injury.
His departure from the field was a blow to Pakistan's bowling attack, especially considering his pivotal role in the team's strategy with his raw pace and ability to bowl at crucial junctures of the game. His injury raised concerns about his availability for upcoming matches, including the imminent ICC Champions Trophy.
In a more alarming incident, New Zealand's all-rounder Rachin Ravindra was hit on the head while attempting a catch in the 38th over of Pakistan's innings. Fielding at deep mid-wicket, Ravindra lost sight of the ball under the floodlights, which then struck him square on the forehead, leading to profuse bleeding.
The sight of Ravindra collapsing and receiving immediate medical attention silenced the stadium, highlighting the inherent risks of the sport. Fortunately, he managed to walk off the field with assistance, but the nature of the injury left fans and teammates anxious about his condition and participation in future games.
These injuries cast a shadow over the match in which New Zealand emerged victorious.
