The Mumbai Indians vs. Delhi Capitals match in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 was overshadowed by a significant run-out controversy that sparked widespread debate among fans, players, and analysts. The crux of the controversy revolved around close run-out calls, all of which were adjudicated by the third umpire, Gayathri Venugopalan. The first incident involved Shikha Pandey in the 18th over, where her bat appeared to be on the line when the LED stumps lit up, yet she was given not out. This decision was based on the frame where her bat was inside the crease before the bails were fully dislodged.

In the next over, Radha Yadav faced a similar situation. Her bat was in the air when the LED lights initially illuminated, but the third umpire again ruled her not out, considering the frame where the bat was grounded before the bails were completely off.

These decisions were met with significant criticism, with former players and fans questioning the interpretation of the rules concerning LED stumps. The playing conditions for WPL 2025 specify that a run-out should be deemed from the moment the LED lights illuminate, suggesting confusion in the application of these rules.

Courtesy of surviving a controversial run-out on the very last ball of the match, Delhi Capitals went on to win the match by 2 wickets and with 0 balls to spare. This match has undoubtedly left a mark on WPL 2025, highlighting the thin margins that can decide the fate of a game.
