Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the defending champions of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), are facing an unexpected slump in the 2025 season, having lost four consecutive matches after a promising start. The Smriti Mandhana-led side, which began the tournament with two commanding victories, now finds itself in a precarious position, slipping to fourth on the points table with only two wins from six games.

The downward spiral began with a narrow defeat to Mumbai Indians on February 21 at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, followed by a dramatic Super Over loss to UP Warriorz on February 24. The misery continued as the Gujarat Giants handed RCB a six-wicket thrashing on February 27, with Ashleigh Gardner’s explosive batting overshadowing a lackluster RCB total of 125/7. The fourth blow came on March 1 against Delhi Capitals, where Shafali Verma’s unbeaten 80 steered DC to a nine-wicket victory, chasing down RCB’s 147/5 with ease.
Despite Ellyse Perry’s consistent form—including a fourth fifty of the season against DC—RCB’s batting has struggled to fire collectively. Smriti Mandhana’s poor run and inconsistent bowling performances from Renuka Singh and Kim Garth have compounded the team’s woes. Fans and analysts express both frustration and hope, with some calling for a miraculous turnaround reminiscent of RCB’s title-winning grit last year.
With two more league games remaining for them, RCB must regroup quickly to salvage their campaign and defend their title, which they won last year!
